Oils, herbs, spices, antiques, carpets, leather goods - all the ingredients to put a smile on the face of a wife. And so it was with Debbie - priceless, if you ask me.
Narrow, covered shopping streets with individual shops. All the vendors suddenly have become my "good friend". Bartering is the standard - a learned skill. The vendors are relentless: "What is your best offer?" They counter, attempting to squeeze just a little more out of you. Even when I walk away, the deal is not done. They chase me down and realize that it really was my final offer.
The uncomfortable side is when the street vendor entices you with a price of "one Euro". Then in the bartering they suddenly change prices - "You didn't seriously think you would get it that cheap, did you?".
My job is to close the deal after Debbie locates something of value. Quite often we settle for roughly 25% of the original offer.
